Cosmetic Dental Veneers Offer Dazzling Results
Smile makeovers are something that we do every day at Roberts Dental & Facial Rejuvenation. Our South Delta, BC dentist, Dr. Jan Roberts incorporates a variety of aesthetic procedures for each cosmetic case, but dental veneers are probably the most sought after of them all.
What is a Dental Veneer?
Veneers are thin porcelain shells that we bond over the front of your tooth. When you smile in the mirror, you’ll see what looks like a new tooth, but your natural tooth is tucked just behind it. Our cosmetic dentist works closely with lab experts to create cosmetic veneers that reduce the appearance of teeth that are:
- Crowded, gapped, or uneven
In order for a veneer to be an option, your tooth will need to be free of gum disease and decay. There will also need to be enough tooth structure present to support a veneer. If there isn’t, a full coverage porcelain crown may be a better option.
Part of your consultation will be discussing what you like — or don’t like — about your current smile, and what you want to change. From here, our cosmetic dentist will order precisely made, hand crafted veneers that are unique in size, shape, and color.
The Treatment Process for Veneers
Getting dental veneers is usually a two-part process for our Tsawwassen, BC patients. After your initial examination/consultation, the first phase of treatment will be scheduled. At this appointment, Dr. Roberts will gently prep your tooth and take an impression. We send the mold to our lab, where your veneers are handmade.
About two weeks later, you’ll return to have any temporary veneers removed and the permanent porcelain ones bonded in place. As soon as you look in the mirror, you’ll see a completely new smile looking back at you.
How Many Veneers Will I Need?
The number of veneers that we recommend for our Tsawwassen, BC patients will depend on the anatomy of your smile. Do several teeth show when you laugh or grin? Are there only a few problematic teeth that you want to focus on? Most people choose to have no fewer than six veneers bonded over their upper front teeth, but more complex cases may need up to 10-12 or more between the upper and lower front teeth at once.
Caring for Your New Smile
It’s important that you take good care of your veneers and the underlying teeth. Daily flossing is necessary. You may also opt to wear a protective bite splint or night guard when you sleep, to avoid unwanted fractures caused by clenching/grinding.
Find Out if You’re a Candidate for Veneers
Veneers are an aesthetic dental treatment, not a restorative one. If your smile concerns are based on the presence of compromised teeth or disease, our South Delta, BC dentist will need to address those concerns first.
We are proudly serving the Tsawwassen, South Delta and Point Roberts communities. We invite you to contact us at Roberts Dental & Facial Rejuvenation today to find out if you’re a candidate for veneers or other smile makeover services.
